The 7 german teams of the Solar Decathlon Europe 21/22 are publishing a book about their concepts and the competition. This includes the teams LOCAL+, X4S, MIMO, RoofKIT 1, Deeply High, levelup and coLLab. It is available to download on the publication platform of KIT. All information licensed as creative commons (CC BY-NC-ND).

How do we build in the future – in the face of advancing climate change, dwindling resources and other multifaceted societal challenges? And what does that mean for the European city? These questions formed the framework for the Solar Decathlon Europe 21»22. Seven German university teams were at the start and present their solutions for solar and circular building with this book – supplemented by background information about the competition. An inspiration for all those interested in creative architecture and innovative energy and building technologies for tomorrow’s housing.

Even though all the points of the Solar Decathlon Europe 21/22 have been counted and the competition is over, we are still given prices! As part of B.I.G. 2023 the price Studenten | Gestalten | Zukunft was awarded to outstanding student projects. We, team MIMO came in third!

Place 1 and 2 went to TU Munich for their projects «PlantBase» and «Ideenwerkstatt».

Im Sommer 2022 präsentierte der Solar Decathlon Europe 21/22 (SDE) studentische Ideen, wie Städte weiterhin nachhaltig, umwelt- und sozialverträglich gebaut werden können: Über 115.000 Besucher kamen nach Wuppertal, um die Veranstaltung live vor Ort zu erleben. Jetzt hat die Bergische Universität Wuppertal über 300 Seiten veröffentlicht, auf denen man den Wettbewerb noch einmal nacherleben kann.

Das Buch ist eine umfassende Dokumentation der SDE21/22 und versammelt einige spannende Erkenntnisse. Es beginnt mit einem Vorwort des Bundesministers für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz, Dr. Robert Habeck, und fasst die Veranstaltung des letzten Jahres zusammen. Die einzelnen Teams und ihre Konzepte werden detailliert vorgestellt und mit einigen schönen Fotos illustriert. Das Buch ist in englischer Sprache verfasst und jetzt für alle frei online verfügbar.

In the summer of 2022 the Solar Decathlon Europe 21/22 (SDE) presented student ideas on how cities can continue to be built in a sustainable, environmentally and socially responsible way: Over 115,000 visitors came to Wuppertal to experience the event live on site. Now the University of Wuppertal published over 300 pages which let you relive the competition.

The book is a comprehensive documentation of the SDE21/22 and gathers some exciting findings. It starts with a foreword by Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Dr Robert Habeck and continues to recap last year’s event. Each team and their concepts is presented in detail alongside some nice photographs. The book is written in English and now freely available online for everyone.

The Solar Decathlon Europe 21/22 is over. The houses are closed to the public. All that remains are the memories and – luckily – some really nice photos shot by team MIMO and Marvin Hillebrand.

This House Demonstration Unit is is a representative extract of our concept for the addition of storeys on Café Ada. It is a fully functional building for 4 residents. You can find more information on our HDU here.

Am 21.09.2022 hat die Präsidentin der Fachhochschule Düsseldorf, Prof. Dr. Edeltraud Vomberg, unser Team und alle seine Mitglieder für ihre phänomenale Arbeit in den vergangenen zwei Jahren geehrt. Die Hochschule lobte unseren vierten Platz beim Solar Decathlon Europe 21/22 und dankte allen Beteiligten für ihr außergewöhnliches Engagement.

Jedes Teammitglied erhielt eine Urkunde von der Hochschule und eine persönliche Medaille aus dem recycelten Holz, das auch für unsere Küchenplatte verwendet wird. Die Medaille wurde von der Hochschulwerkstatt unter der Leitung unseres Werkstattleiters Franz Klein-Wiele hergestellt.

On the 21.09.2022 the president of the University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf, Prof. Dr. Edeltraud Vomberg, honoured our team and all of its members for their phenomenal work in the past two years. The university praised our fourth place in the Solar Decathlon Europe 21/22 and thanked everyone for their extraordinary commitment.

Each team member got a certificate from the university and a personal medal made out of the recycled wood, which is also used for our kitchen top. The medal was produced by our university’s workshop under the of our workshop manager Franz Klein-Wiele.
